TUNA SALAD SANDWICH RECIPE

4 SERVINGS

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Dorothy mentions her family have been making this tuna or salmon or other meat sandwich for years. Her mother used to make it all the time for luncheons, teas, bridal and baby shower lunches. We added whatever ground meat and kinds of cheeses, we had on hand. This goes well with ground ham, ground turkey, ground chicken, salmon, pike, sardines and tuna, as mentioned below.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans x 8 ounce of tuna packed in water or oil, drained well.

  • 3 green or white onions, chopped finely

  • 1 clove of garlic, chopped finely

  • ¼ cup chopped dill pickles

  • 1 stalk celery, sliced thinly, your choice of thickness

  • ¼ cup chopped, bite size cheese- yellow or white cheeses, your choice

  • 1/3 cup mayo- real mayo, or miracle whip

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 4 kaiser or hamburger buns or bread, croissants, lettuce leaves, tortilla flour/corn wraps,

  • Butter or hummus or miracle whip to spread on the buns.

Toppings to Add: Lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, sliced pepper rings, cucumber slices, dill pickles, an olive with pimento in it or straight up olive!

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the tuna or other meat with onions, garlic, dill pickles, celery, cheese, salt/pepper to taste and then real mayonnaise or miracle whip..

  2. Cut kaiser bun, croissant in half lengthwise or for a daintier sandwich, slice it top to bottom for a smaller sandwich with a serrated knife or use slices of bread.

  3. Spread bun or wrap with hummus or butter.

  4. Put lettuce leaf on bottom of bun, wrap, etc..

  5. Scoop above mixture onto bun or wrap, etc….

  6. Top with sliced tomato, cucumber slices, pickles, sliced mild or hot pepper ring or an olive.

  7. Serve cold or as is!

***For variation put some of the mixture on a bun, and then leave some on a plate or in a bowl. Have it as a cool summer salad with crackers and cheese for the evening meal or for lunch!!!
