We got off to a great start with the first cooking show of this season on November 26, 2022. I had one participant that was able to come and cook with me that morning. We made Turkey Shepard's Pie and Turkey and Potato Croquettes. Both recipes turned out really well. The good thing about these down to earth recipes is they are made with ordinary food which most people eat every day.
If you have to eat gluten free, no wheat products, then change the ingredients to read,I substituted rice flour or tapioca starch or one:one ration flour with no wheat in it. for the breadcrumbs, substitute rice crispies cereal or rice cakes ground up into crumbs. If you are vegan, then leave the eggs out of the recipe. You may change things up for you, as you are cooking in your own kitchen, so use what you normally use for those gluten free foods.
I was attempting to do the cooking show in 30 minutes, however found it impossible to get all the prepping, as well as the cooking squeezed into 30 minutes. It took us 55 minutes from start to finish and have the croquettes cooked and ready to eat. I might have to play with the video recording and see if I can get it down to 30 minutes edited video recording time. It was fun and I really enjoyed have my friend Lori come to cook with me from her house in the United States.
That is what is so great about Zooming into each other's houses, we live thousands of miles apart, but can cook together on this show and that is so special. See you next month for another cooking show with me and you, cooking in the comfort of our own kitchens, yet sharing tips and mistakes, as Grandma's Kitchen is not about perfection, it is about real life, making mistakes while cooking, yet realizing it is only feedback about what to do differently next time around.
